DYNANO recruits 12 PhD students and 3 post-doc researchers to achieve its scientific objective. You'll find below the specific focuses chosen to produce a new generation of highly-skilled scientists. We also describe our work plan, carried out by DYNANO's PhD students and post-doc reasearchers.

Interdisciplinary training


The DYNANO training programme is designed to provide pluridisciplinary training at the interface between chemistry and biology & biomedicine and biophysics, focussed on the emergent and innovative fields of nanosciences, and membranes sciences of promising applications in biomedicine and biotechnology.

The overall ambition of the network programme is that all participating PhD students in the network will - in part - work in all these disciplines.

Post-doc researchers, for which the time to be spent within the programme is shorter, will be recruited on a cross-disciplinary basis: candidates with a background in, for example, chemistry will be recruited to a biology group and vice versa. The main objective is that they expand their range of expertises and also that they get familiar with research management and development in the private sector.

Linking academia & industry


The DYNANO network interlinks academia with private industry, and gives participating researchers a wide experience from both environments.

Whilst bigger companies provide the network with a global economy experience, the SMEs provide special understanding of startup- and rapid development issues, and function as engines for transitional growth of research initiatives.

Highlight

A special measure of the project is to give each researcher special training in entrepreneurship and company management.

We want to increase our young researchers' awareness in industrial research requirements: all our recruited researchers will spend three months in a private company of the network (a SME -AAB- or one of the two large industries -SOLVAY and GVS).

Post-doc researchers will be trained about industrial procedures and methods to develop a product from R&D stage to commercialization; i.e., product development, product characterization, product launching, product sale and technical assistance. This will help them to understand how to operate in the R&D activities having in mind the priorities required to launch an innovative product in the market.

Scientific Work Plan


The scientific programme is divided into 4 sub-projects (SP), carried out by 12 PhD students and 3 post-doc researchers under the supervision of the respective principal investigator of each partner.

The programme ranges from synthesis, dynamic nanoplatform preparation and structural work, to applications such as cell assays, diagnostics, signalling properties, microarrays, biosensors and other affinity applications such as selective membranes for biotechnological purposes.
